Basic on-page SEO tips for blogger

On-page SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) is considered the most important factor of SEO, and it's what you do within your blog posts. Sounds simple? But if you know that it took me almost one year ( untill I decided to turn this hobby blog into business blog ) to do these basic steps consistently.

• Search engine friendly post title:

Besides creating a catchy, descriptive post title with relevant keywords, there's another aspect of SEO for post title which can boost your chances of being found by readers you may haven't noticed. Search engine displays your blog's name in the beginning of search results or in front of each page or post title.

Blog's name: Post title

The fact is internet users often search for a specific topic or content rather than a blog's name. So this little tip is much more useful when you have a long post title.

Post title - Blog's name

A bit HTML work is required: 

Back up your template first

Go to Blogger Dashboard > Template > Edit HTML

Hit Ctrl + F and find this: 

 <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>

Replace by this: 

 <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;index&quot;'>
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
<b:else/>

 <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> </b:if>

 Hit Preview to see if everything is ok then Save

Here's an example: Post title - Blog's name

• Good blog post: 

A blog post should have at least 300 words for better SEO, blog with many < 300 words posts may be considered as spam. Also try to use relevant keywords and phrases in your post.

• Add meta description for each post:

Go to Blogger Dashboard > Setting > Search preference

Enable search description by ticking Yes

Then in your blog post writing screen, you'll see a Search Description 

Fill in a description with keywords as a good summary for each of your post.

• Add names and tags for images:

In your writing screen, click on the image > Properties

Put your image's name and alt tags (I keep on forgetting this part ...)

• Internal linking: 

Link to your previous and related posts will increase your blog's page view.

Help your readers to reach more infomation in your blog, improve your readership.

Decrease bounce rate and help your gain better pagerank by increasing link popularity.

• Reduce blog load time: 

Don't lose your valuable traffic!
