Spiral web brimmed hat - free crochet pattern

Here's another crochet brimmed hat for summer time. A whimsical spiral web would spice things up!


 
Materials: ( I used)
5 mm crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn: grey, red
Yarn needle

Abbreviations:
Ch = Chain
St(s) = Stitch(es)
Sl = Slip stitch  
Sc = Single crochet

Inc = Increase  

Dec = Decrease       

Hdc= Half double crochet
Dec hdc= Half double crochet 2 stitches together
Inc hdc= 2 half double crochet in same stitch

Dc = Double crochet 
Inc dc = 2 double crochet in same stitch
Dec dc = Double crochet 2 stitches together 
Tc = Triple crochet
Inc tc = 2 triple crochet in same stitch
Dec tc = Triple crochet 2 stitches together
Fpdc = Front post double crochet
Bpdc = Back post double crochet

Note: This is an adult size hat (23'' head circumference) with materials indicated.

Special stitch used: front post chainless starting double crochet ( simply make a chainless starting double crochet and insert hook into front post of the stitch of last round then yarn over and pull through)

Hat: Start with grey yarn.

R1: form a magic ring, make 12 dc, sl into 1st stitch to join,12 sts

R2: front post chainless starting dc, ch1, ( fpdc, ch1) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 24 sts

R3: front post chainless starting dc, ch2, ( fpdc, ch2) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 36 sts

R4: front post chainless starting dc, ch3, ( fpdc, ch3) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 48 sts

R5: front post chainless starting dc, ch4, ( fpdc, ch4) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 60 sts

R6: front post chainless starting dc, ch5, ( fpdc, ch5) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 72 sts

R7: front post chainless starting dc, ch6, ( fpdc, ch6) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 84 sts

R8: front post chainless starting dc, ch7, ( fpdc, ch7) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 96 sts

R9: front post chainless starting dc, ch8, ( fpdc, ch8) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 108 sts

R10 to 13: same as R9

R14: ch1, hdc into same stitch, 8 hdc into space, ( hdc, 8 hdc into space) x 11 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 108 sts

R15: dc around, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 108 sts

R16: chainless starting dc, dc, fpdc, ( 2 dc, fpdc ) x 35 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 108 sts

R17: same as R16

R18: change to red yarn, same as R16

R19: (7 sc, dec sc) x 12 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 96 sts

R20: sc around, sl into 1st stitch to join, 96 sts

R21: change to grey yarn, sc around, sl into 1st stitch to join, 96 sts

Brim: continue from last st of R21

R22: skip 1 st, sl into next st, ( sc, inc sc) x 15 times, total 45 sts, sl into next 2 st, ch1, turn

R23: sc across, 45 sts, sl into next st, ch 1, turn

R24 to 27: same as R23

R28: change to red yarn, hdc around the hat (fasten off, weave in ends)
