How to drive more traffic from Pinterest to your blog

I've picked up some useful tips to get more traffic from Pinterest - a very fast growing social media platform. After a few months of learning and using my social networking correctly, I'm still trying to organize my pin boards and boost the performance. However, I'd love to share my experience here.

  • Add and verify your site URL:
It's a must! Get your site URL at the top and encourage users to visit it with a few neat and simple intro sentences.
Verify your URL to let others know it's definitely yours. This also enable the free analytic tool to see the traffic you get from Pinterest.

A verified URL will have a tick mark next to the URL

  • Add board categories:
Choose and add a relevant category to each of your board. Not only your followers but other users can also see your pins from categories browsing.

  • Create and join group boards:
Group boards are for users with same interests. Create group boards to share your pins and let others share their pins, in a short time you'll have nice boards with many pins. This would attract more followers, too. One thing to do is beware of spammy and stuffs.

Also join other group boards to share your pins. Great way to get more exposure to your works and get repins. I often repin many nice tutorials and tips from other group boards.

At the moment, I have 2 group boards: DIY tutorials and Handmade market. Feel free to join and let me know if you are interested to be a contributor.

  • Add a pin it button to your images.
Get pin it button with each of your images from each post is a great way to get pins and repins -> more traffic. I got mine here: http://www.bloggersentral.com/2012/11/pinterest-pin-it-button-on-image-hover.html

  • Create pinnable images.
For craft or decor stuffs, images are from your works, just take nice pictures. But when you need an image to pin from other topics, illustrative images with description is what to do. Search for some stock images free sites on Google, you'll see.

  • Add description to each image you pin.
Give other a brief description of the pin and encourage others to click on your image (Use keywords and hashtags...) Description can also be a kind of "call to action". If it's a freebie, let them know. Tutorials and free stuffs have the most repins on Pinterest.
Some even add site URL to the image and description. Try it if you think it's good.

  • Create valuable content behind the pin image.
You get pins and repins from readers, of course, they must love what you post to " save " it. Write good tutorials, tips and trendy topics.

  • Pin and repin other great stuffs.
You can't just pin only things from your blog. Read and promote great content from other bloggers as ways to enrich your pin boards and attract more followers.

  • Get more followers and repins with PinWoot .
I found this site last month and really like their etiquettes. A good way to get more followers and repins. Free to join, you may want to take a look :)
