"Polished" it and share it here. This is another free size baby beanie crocheted with drop stitch I hooked up for a while. You can see I'm interested in drafting free size hat patterns so that other crocheters can make one they like at all size. Moreover, choosing a catchy name is what I always try, Heart beat beanie is cuter than Drop stitch beanie, right?
Materials: ( I used )
5,5 mm crochet hook
Light weight yarn: beige, red
Yarn needleAbbreviations:
Sc = Single crochet
Ch = Chain
Sl = Slip stitch
Ch = Chain
Sl = Slip stitch
Inc = Increase
Dec = Decrease
Tc = Triple crochet
Dc = Double crochet
Inc tc = 2 triple crochet in same stitch
Inc dc = 2 double crochet in same stitch
Hdc= half double crochet
Dec hdc= half double crochet 2 stitches together
Inc hdc= 2 half double crochet in same stitch
Dc = Double crochet
Inc tc = 2 triple crochet in same stitch
Inc dc = 2 double crochet in same stitch
Hdc= half double crochet
Dec hdc= half double crochet 2 stitches together
Inc hdc= 2 half double crochet in same stitch
Note: I crocheted hats for 3 to 6 months babies but this pattern is free size so you can always adjust the size by decreasing or increasing the desirable length of the band and the length of hat.
Special stitch used: drop stitch (It's a drop stitch with a little mix-match alteration)
With color A
Crochet a band first.
Ch 16, hdc into 2nd chain from hook, hdc across, 14 sts.
Turn, ch 1, hdc across, 14 sts. ( repeat this step untill you reach your desirable length)
Seam with sc to form a band
Rnd 1: With color B yarn, from
any st of the band, crochet “1sc, 1 drop st” around , join with a sl stitch.

After 1 sc, Insert hook in the next stitch of previous crochet row,
Yarn over, draw up loop to height of working row, you will have 2 loops on hook now.
Yarn over, pull through 1 loop, still 2 loops on hook.
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops and finish the drop stitch.
Rnd 2 and 3: hdc around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 4: change to color A yarn, “1 drop st, 1 sc” around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 5 and 6: hdc around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 7: change to color B yarn, “ 1 sc, 1 drop st” around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 8 and 9: hdc around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 10: change to color A yarn, “1 drop st, 1 sc” around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 11 and 12: hdc around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 13: change to color B yarn, “ 1 sc, 1 drop st” around, join with a sl stitch.
Rnd 14, 15, 16: hdc around, join with a sl stitch. ( fasten off)
Leave long end.
Finished, oddly look like a mini skirt xD
Make a pom pom and attach on top.
